Open Studio at Mud Blossom Pottery

What is Open Studio?

Open Studio at Mud Blossom Pottery is a relaxed, creative time for independent makers who already know the basics of working with clay. It’s a space to unwind, explore ideas, and enjoy the company of other potters without the structure of a class.

Open Studio is not a beginner class or a walk‑in activity. There is no instruction during Open Studio, and participants must already know how to safely use the equipment and materials.

To participate in Open Studio, you should already have these basic skills:

• Wheel users -centering and pulling walls on the wheel

• Hand builders -how to build with slabs, pinch, and coil techniques

• Using studio tools and equipment safely (wheels, slab roller, hand tools)

• Understanding how to prepare your work for bisque and glaze firing

• How to clean your wheel or work area, tools, and equipment properly

• Labeling and storing your in-progress pieces

Why Experience is Important:  Improper use of pottery equipment and tools, can cause injuries, damage the equipment/tools, or destroy other people’s work. We want to keep the space safe, calm, and enjoyable for everyone.

If you’re brand new to clay or you have been away out of the studio for a while and have forgotten some of the basics — don’t fret. You can start with one or two of our beginner-friendly classes or workshops. Once you’ve learned the basics, you’ll be ready to join Open Studio in no time.
